New Releases Coming Soon.

I've been holding on to this news for so long now but the time has come to finally share it with all of you. I've been working very closely with my publisher Canadian Art Prints since last August and ....Drum roll please.....

Ocean View
Part of the summer release

Some new paintings have been included in the summer release in June. Yay!! Here's a sneak peek that Canadian Art Prints and Winn Devon Art Group posted on their Facebook page a little while ago. My entire portfolio with Canadian Art Prints can be viewed here.

Halloween Owls.

Have you noticed that owls seem to be a very hot trend in home decor lately? Perhaps it's because they've been on my radar, but I see them almost everywhere I go.  It's a trend that seems to come back every so often (I remember in high school in the 70's they were big) and so the saying goes-everything old is new again.

I was asked to do some illustrations of owls this past summer. This pair of owl paintings are 18x18, mixed media on canvas. A perfect opportunity to use up some textured papers and play with some mixed media techniques. The cool gray tones and hits of bronze give them a rather moody feel. Almost spooky, so with Halloween coming up I thought I'd share them.

The publishers ended up using 2 other owls that I painted in the series and I'm left with 4 paintings of owls.  In fact there are paintings and illustrations crowding the shelves and the floor of my studio/living space. Perhaps it's time for a studio sale.

All you need is Love

This little bit of cuteness arrived in my mailbox today. Artist Marisa Haedike creates and paints the most adorable little characters. I found Marisa's blog Creative Thursday about two years ago and instantly fell in love with her whimsical illustrations and adorable gang of cuties. Marisa's blog is full of inspiration, daily paintings and podcasts. She left a 9 to 5 world to realize a dream and has become a thriving business. Her blog is where she shares her thoughts on understanding and appreciating the creative life. She's even self published her first children's book "Who are you going to be today Olive?". I was lucky enough to snap up this last "love" Valentine card from Creative Thursday's shop on Etsy. Marisa included one of her business cards along with a personal note to me. A nice touch. I'm going to frame it up in style and hang it in my studio. Thanks Marisa for the endless inspiration I get when visiting your blog.
