Little Abstracts on Paper.

Happy Monday!! It's hard to believe that Spring is only 53 days away, while the eastern seaboard is experiencing a nor'easter. I feel bad for friends in NYC as they're expecting a ton of snow. Keep safe.

Today I'm sharing some very 'spring like' little abstract paintings. They are all acrylic on paper and I painted them with my publisher in mind last summer. I really enjoy working with Canadian Art Prints as I get to play and explore a variety of different subject matter and techniques. I certainly don't get bored in my line of work. I paint many pieces and out of dozens, only a few will get chosen to be published. If you wish you can see my new releases here.

Early Morning King West

Early Morning King West
36x48 Acrylic on Canvas
Available at Canvas Gallery

Early Morning King West is just one of the new cityscapes fresh off my easel. I've sequestered myself in the studio and I've been working hard to complete a few projects on the go. It's been a nice flow of working on the cityscapes series, illustration work, and color roughs for new landscapes. Not much else to say today so I'm back to work :-)

Sign Sign Everywhere a Sign.

I have a serious passion for neon and if it's retro neon, wow! On one of our trips to Vegas last year we visited the Neon Museum (Neon Boneyard) and I took lots of photos. The tour was fabulous, walking through all the large neon signs from all the old hotels, now demolished. Such history! I could almost hear the Rat Pack singing. Check out my photos here and here and here.

This is Dino's Lounge. The last neighborhood bar in Vegas. (it's really old Vegas) We never went in but of course I got a shot of the sign. This is how it looked when I started the painting many months ago. If you go back to my post about it, I was having a bit of a dry spell at the time. I put it away and forgot about it until last week when I pulled it out again. I wasn't happy with the format so I started fresh on a 6x6 board. Here's what it looks like completed. I'm happy with the end result.

Kit Kat. 6x6 acrylic on board

This is the Kit Kat Restaurant here in Toronto. It's not far from me and it's in a block of restaurants with lots of neon, so of course I've taken lots of photos of their signs. I like the square format and the small size lets me complete a painting in a couple of hours. I like where this series is going so stay tuned for more of them.

Inspire Me Pinterest.

I've been reviewing some of my mood boards that I've created over the past few years and have noticed that what's inspiring me lately, really hasn't changed that much. I still favor neutrals in a big way. Blues and greens make their way into my art more than the reds do.

My friend and fellow artist Karen, invited me to join Pinterest, an online place to catalogue the things you love. Mood boards that you can share. I can see I'm going have to find some extra minutes in my day to explore this new venue.

New Mixed Media Paintings in My Etsy Shop.

I've added new mixed media paintings to my Etsy shop. This one's titled "Serenity" and is 8"x10". I've used painting, stenciling and collage techniques to create this one of a kind illustration. The three ginkgo leaves are hand cut from 140 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper, which I've painted in soothing warm tones. Check out all the items in my shop here and remember, original art always makes a great gift!!

The rest of my week will be spent getting caught up from all that I've missed while away, re organizing my studio-which is basically cleaning up, and working on new small mixed media paintings that will be available through my Etsy. It's hard to believe, but the holiday shopping season is quickly approaching and I want to be ready for it this year. My online shop will be well stocked with affordable, original art all lovingly made by me. Get ready for it, I've already seen some Christmas decorations on store shelves!!!
