Here we are, it's Friday already. How fast did this week go by? I've had fun all this week playing along with Poppytalk and showing you mixed media originals from my shop. Today's color is blue. Robins egg blue and I've picked "Winter Berries" as it really has the feel of an early spring day.

This weekend will really feel like spring as we "spring ahead" to daylight savings time. I don't know about you but I'm really looking forward to the extra daylight. Hope you have a great weekend.

Today is purple day for Poppytalk's spring color week. "Purple Twilight" is the newest mixed media painting in my shop. I painted this specifically for spring color week. All shades of purple are perfect for spring. Makes me think of lavender or freshly painted Easter eggs. This would make a great gift for Mother's day.

Continuing with Poppytalk's spring color week. Today's color is green. Not a regular shade of green but a bright spring green, chartreuse. It's one of my favorite colors these days. It's just so bright and cheerful. I've updated Red Banana's shop on Etsy. That's my little shop where you can find all of my mixed media minis. And be sure to check out Poppytalk all week to get a big dose of spring color.

It's spring color week on Poppytalk. I had such fun playing along last fall, I thought I'd participate again. Each day is a different "spring" color, and I'll post one of my mixed media paintings in that color. Today is Pink. "Pink Sky" has a retro feel and makes me think of long days as a child spent at the amusement park. It's available for purchase (free shipping) in my Etsy shop.

Well here we are. Today is Friday and that means it's Red!! The last day that I'm playing along with Poppytalk's Autumn Colour Week. Thanks Poppytalk for this wonderfully colourful prompt!! It's funny, I haven't done many red paintings lately. A few years ago I was really into the colour, but my palette has changed to the cool and soothing tones of blues and grays. This is really evident in the small landscapes available in my shop. Thanks to you for joining me in this fun tribute to the colours of Autumn. Have a great weekend!!

Summer Sunset 36x48 Acrylic on Canvas

Still playing along with Poppytalk blog's Autumn Colour week. Brown is the colour of the earth. I use deep browns in many of my paintings as it's a natural in landscapes. Many decorators and stylists use browns in their designs. It's a very rich and classy colour.

I'm playing along with Poppytalk's Autumn Colour Week and today is Orange. For me orange is THE colour that is Autumn. It's everywhere from leaves to dried grasses to pumpkins. Just look around and you'll see it everywhere. It's such a warm and cozy colour, but it's a strong colour. Artist Kim Hambric uses the colour brilliantly in her quilts and mixed media pieces. This one's my favourite. I've shared with you three paintings where I've used orange as the main colour. These have all been sold but I do commision work and can create a painting for that perfect spot in your home or office. Feel free to drop me an email.

Day 2 of Autumn Colour Week. Poppytalk is celebrating the colours of Autumn and I'm playing along. See the original post here. Today is Tuesday and the colour is green. I paint many landscapes and green is a colour I use often. I find that the green acrylic paints can be very harsh and almost artificial looking straight from the tube, so I always dull them a bit by adding a touch of a red or an orange, sometimes even a burnt sienna or umber. Mixing greens can be a lot of fun and I can spend hours mixing various shades of yellows and blues together. The two landscapes above are both available at Artstream Gallery and Studios

Poppytalk is one of my favourite Canadian design blogs and is on my "must Read" blog list. This week is Autumn Colour week. I thought it would be fun to participate, so I'll be posting some of my work in the suggested colours. Today is yellow. Tuesday is green, Wednesday is Orange, Thursday is brown, and Friday is red. I've always found yellow to be so bright and in your face so it's not usually a colour I use often. It is very easy to use in paintings depicting late summer or early fall so it was a good choice for the above paintings. (I think). Why don't you play along. You can find Poppytalk's original post for Autumn Colour Week here.
